Important aspects before a Hair Transplant
The following instructions are very important for you to follow before the transplant surgery in order to ensure the best quality of the procedure:
- Do not take aspirin or any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, 7 to 14 days before your surgery. If you are under any anticoagulant treatment, please inform the doctor of your situation before the transplant.
- Take your regular medication (for hypertension, hypoglycemia, gastric protection, etc.).
- Drink plenty of water the day before the surgery.
- If you are undergoing treatment with Minoxidil, you must suspend it at least two weeks before the surgery.
- Stop consuming alcohol at least three days before the surgery. Also, avoid coffee or any other caffeinated beverages. These substances can increase bleeding and sensitivity to medications used during the transplant.
- Refrain from smoking for at least 24 hours before the procedure. Smoking can delay healing and increase the chances of infection, leaving scars, or compromising graft survival.
- Do not take any multivitamins, including vitamin E and B, during the week before the procedure, as this can lead to excessive bleeding. Also, avoid any herbal products during the same week.
- On the morning of the operation, shower and wash your hair with a regular shampoo. Do not apply any spray or gel to your hair. If you are using any hair products, make sure to completely remove them during the bath or shower.
- On the day of the procedure, have a normal breakfast, but remember to avoid caffeinated drinks.
- You may receive some medication that can cause drowsiness. We advise you not to drive any vehicle on the way back home.
- Recent blood tests will be necessary, including a coagulation study, HIV, and Hepatitis-C. If you are over 45 years old, an ECG (electrocardiogram) will be required no more than two weeks before the scheduled surgery date.
- If you undergo the FUT (Strip) method, you should start scalp elasticity exercises as soon as possible.
